VTDigger is excited to work with Vermont Care Partners to promote the much-needed services of its sixteen respective member agencies which, includes NCSS. They also understand how important it is for our elected officials to know how to support the needs of Vermonters.
This thirteen-week series is a collaboration produced by members of the Vermont Care Partners statewide network of sixteen non-profit, community-based agencies providing mental health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disability support.
Below is the eleventh installment Kindle Farm School and other VT Therapeutic Schools which provide depth to the educational system.

HCRS’ Kindle Farm and Other VT Therapeutic Schools Provide Depth to Educational System
“Kindle Farm is the educational experience I dream of for every child,” according to the parent of Kindle Farm School student, Sylas.
Sylas’ mom said, “Last May, when my son told me about the Kindle Farm May Day Challenge, I thought it was a fun seasonal activity. Sylas was very clear – the jump into the cold pond was a “personal choice” challenge. Right there is a distinction that sets Kindle Farm above the norm. Personal growth before prowess.
Sylas did the jump, which was great. He was proud, and I was so proud. For a week afterwards, Sylas revisited the memories from his jump: It took him two tries but then he just went for it – A staff member showed him where to get out of the pond – Everyone cheered him on – Another staff wrapped him in a towel…”
Kindle Farm School, located in Newfane and Townshend, Vermont, serves boys in grades 2-12 and is currently celebrating its 26th year as a relationship-based therapeutic day school. It is run by Health Care & Rehabilitation Services (HCRS), the designated mental health and developmental disability agency for Windham and Windsor Counties.
The school is one of 14 therapeutic schools supported by Vermont Care Partner network agencies with a mission to serve Vermont students who struggle in public school environments.
