This time, we’re diving into the results of the 2021 Vermont Youth Risk Behavior Survey, which revealed some striking data about mental health among Vermont high schoolers. Nearly 17,000 students were asked whether they experienced poor mental health ‘most of the time’ or ‘always’ in the last 30 days. The results showed 49% of females, 21% of males, and 59% of LGBTQ+ students responded affirmatively. Additionally, Vermont’s adolescent suicide rate exceeds the national average.

In response to this, the student-led movement Hope Happens Here at BFA-St. Albans is working to make a difference. Their mission is to promote mental health awareness and offer support to their peers, creating a community where it’s okay not to be okay. In this episode, you’ll hear from Norah Gates and Eleanor Demore, both juniors at BFA, who are leading efforts to reduce stigma, engage student athletes, and foster a culture of open dialogue about mental health within the school community.

Don’t miss this inspiring conversation!
